Period Style
This is my 1972 Datsun 510 that I have owned since 1975. She was my former autocross, college, and work commute car in the past and now has been restored as a BRE Tribute car to the Screaming Yellow Zonker aka Brock Buster. I took her through a bare metal restoration 2 years ago and she now sports BRE body-work and is painted in Ferrari Giallo Modena (fly yellow).
The interior utilizes a stock instrument cluster with a stock Tach, three stage III Stewart Warner gauges from 1980, a Momo Andretti steering wheel, and BRIDE Eurostar seats. Simpson belts keep you in place.
To keep her period correct she uses 13” VTO Libras with 205-60-13 BF Goodrich TAs – white letters out. The Datsun Comp suspension was worn out so it has been upgraded to a fully adjustable front and rear suspension. An old style FAR Performance front sway bar and an adjustable Quikor rear sway bar. Stopping is provided by Wilwood front discs and aluminum Z drums rear.
The drive train is made up of a bored and stroked L16 using an L18 crank, Z rods, 10.5:1 compression pistons, a Datsun Comp head, header, and intake. Carbs are 44 PHH Mikunis. A roadster 5-speed sends the power to the R180 LSD.
She is now a mix of some new and old but keeps to the period correct theme of the 1970 and early 1980s.
