It is with deep sadness to share that Tom Matano, often called the Father of the Miata and designer of the first-generation MX-5, has passed away.
The news is sudden and heartbreaking, though he had mentioned to us that he had been ill for some time. At last year’s JCCS, he was full of energy, warmly meeting fans at the Mazda booth.
He also joined us as a special guest at the 10th Anniversary of JCCS.
We at JCCS was fortunate to have personal connections with him, which makes this loss even heavier. We are committed to make our 20th anniversary to be a success, and would like to make him proud.
He will truly be missed. Thank you for everything Tom-san.

とても悲しいお知らせです。「ミアタの父」と呼ばれ、初代ミアタ（ユーノス）のデザイナーとして知られる 俣野トム 氏 がご逝去されました。
突然の事で大変ショックを受けておりますが、ご本人からはしばらくご病気であったと伺っておりました。昨年のJCCSではマツダブースにて多くのファンの方々と交流され、元気なお姿を見せてくださいました。
また、JCCSの10周年の際にもゲストとしてご参加いただきました。個人的にも交流の機会に恵まれただけに、深い悲しみを感じております。心よりご冥福をお祈り申し上げます。
またトムさんに褒めて頂きたいので、JCCSチーム一同、20周年も成功させるよう、頑張りたいと思います。
