1970 Datsun 240 Z Works Rally Lightweight – Monte-Carlo Spec
Thomas Knudsen is a die-hard enthusiast of Japanese cars, and a prior contributor to JCCS. In 2011, he brought three S20-powered Nissans to JCCS for a special display.
This year, he is bringing an even more special car from his collection – one of six complete rally-spec Datsun 240Z Works Rally cars. Of the ~40 Works 240Zs originally made, the factory still owns three (including the two Safari Rally winners). Cars four and five are owned by privateers in England, and he will be bringing the unrestored-but-complete sixth car to JCCS for its first scheduled public appearance in 50 years, so that S30Z and rally enthusiasts can get a close-up look at some of the original unique details of these rarely seen PZR-shelled Works rally cars. In addition, there will be an exhibit in the booth covering the Nissan Works program from the late 60’s through the 240Z era, for history buffs to enjoy.
This year’s JCCS will be its only scheduled showing prior to starting a restoration to bring the car back to its original Monte-Carlo specification, after which he hopes to return with the finished car to the JCCS main show field.
